The cliché goes that there is no ‘i’ in team, although one should be quick to be reminded that with no individuals there is no team. That’s only logical. The question arises however, how heavily a team should rely on certain individuals. The question then arises, who has been Chelsea’s most influential player?

Last season Liverpool became a force to reckoned with. There were moments last season where they would play teams off the pitch in a manner that was unparalleled in the league with Suarez as their focal point. Then the inevitable happened, Barcelona came knocking and Liverpool lost out on the Uruguayan’s services. The results of which being clear for all to see. Suarez was not only influential, he was the heart and almost sole reason for their success. Their dependency on Suarez proved to be unsustainable.

Chelsea’s team selection has been consistent in every department. In defence, Courtois, Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic once settled have proven to a menacing and a solid defensive wall. In midfield, the pairing of Matic and Fabregas have provided effective cover with Oscar playing centrally and, Hazard and Willian playing wide. Up front Costa despite cooling down after a blistering start has provided a consistent threat up front.

Deciding the most influential player is dependant on a number of factors. There’s a vain tendency to favour goalscorer over the unglamorous performance of defending. Without a doubt the player to combine defending and attacking in the world class levels has been Fabregas. Cesc has become the leagues leading assiter whilst also protecting his back four.

Mourinho provided another masterclass in bringing the former Arsenal and Barca man to the Bridge. Playing regularly in every competition, Cesc remaining injury free can only be expected to achieve more in 2015.

Though, Fabrigas is playing a key role in this campaign but Eden Hazard is the man

We had Hazard last season with less success than this season. Hazard is our best player but I’d say since the title is ‘Most Influential’ player the praise has to go to Fabregas imo
