The cliché goes that there is no ‘i’ in team, although one should be quick to be reminded that with no individuals there is no team. That’s only logical. The question arises however, how heavily a team should rely on certain individuals. The question then arises, who has been Chelsea’s most influential player?

Last season Liverpool became a force to reckoned with. There were moments last season where they would play teams off the pitch in a manner that was unparalleled in the league with Suarez as their focal point. Then the inevitable happened, Barcelona came knocking and Liverpool lost out on the Uruguayan’s services. The results of which being clear for all to see. Suarez was not only influential, he was the heart and almost sole reason for their success. Their dependency on Suarez proved to be unsustainable.

Chelsea’s team selection has been consistent in every department. In defence, Courtois, Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic once settled have proven to a menacing and a solid defensive wall. In midfield, the pairing of Matic and Fabregas have provided effective cover with Oscar playing centrally and, Hazard and Willian playing wide. Up front Costa despite cooling down after a blistering start has provided a consistent threat up front.

Deciding the most influential player is dependant on a number of factors. There’s a vain tendency to favour goalscorer over the unglamorous performance of defending. Without a doubt the player to combine defending and attacking in the world class levels has been Fabregas. Cesc has become the leagues leading assiter whilst also protecting his back four.

Mourinho provided another masterclass in bringing the former Arsenal and Barca man to the Bridge. Playing regularly in every competition, Cesc remaining injury free can only be expected to achieve more in 2015.

eden hazard has been the best player for chelsea n de epl so far..my words to mourinho is tht he has to change our back 4 replace Terry wth ivanovic n bring luis to left bck n azpi to right bck.

I believe Hazard has been the most influential in this team. His mere presence drags away at least 2 opposition defenders and that opens the way for the rest of the team. And aside from scoring, assisting and toying with the opposition he hasn’t forgotten his defensive duties. Besides I don’t recall him having a rotten game and costing the team points.

U are very right my dear brother; the back 4 should be reshuffled, John Terry is getting tired day by day and Ivanovic don’t return for cover up as he can’t run. So the entire team should be reshape on their system of play. Talking about influentialities in chelsea squad, we have almost every body as an influential player but I think that at the moment; Eden Hazard is the most influential player on the pitch.

Please I want chelsea to change our mentality of approach. They have restart fast game and serinus marking, they always let their opponent so free and chance to play the ball while they also relaxes on ball untill the opponent collects the ball from them. Mourinho have to change that tactics if we can progress.

  7. james says:

i give it to harzard…he has been prolific…and yes chelsea have to go back to marking,we give our opponents lots of space and has cost us dearly.

  8. james says:

while showering harzard praises we should nt foget that fabregas is one player that have made a huge difference in the team.eventhough the role mou has given him keeps him anonymous atimes.

4 me i think eden has been our most influential player so far but nevertheless, fabregas and costa have also proved their worth.

There’s no question on Fabregas’ influence on the Chelsea game, he’s been impressive. However there’s a weakness in his game defensively when playing against battering attacking midfielders and strikers. This is why Mourinho has used Mikel in some game. Despite that weakness he remains a very important player for us and can always send in that goal-bound pass. But in all honesty at the moment, Hazard is the most influential. His dribbling allows space for others to make the runs, and he can dribble and cruise his to a goal, penalty or free-kick. He can create always create something from nothing. He is unparalleled at the moment.
