Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne has today secured a move from Stamford Bridge to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in a deal thought to be worth around €20 million.

The 22-year-old is a highly regarded talent in Europe but struggled to compete with the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, Oscar and Juan Mata at Chelsea and it seems as though all parties have agreed that a permanent move is best for the player.

De Bruyne only made nine appearances for the Blues this season after an impressive spell at Werder Bremen in the previous campaign and has a World Cup to think about this summer, so wanted to go into the tournament in his best form and he’ll need to be playing regular football to achieve that.

It’s a bit of a shame from Chelsea’s point of view as he is a talent and it was just unfortunate that there was no room for him at the club this season and if only there was more time it could have been different. There’s also the possibility that he will impress in Brazil and could have gone for an even larger fee should the West London club have waited until then.

I’m not buying all this talk about the player having a bad attitude, not trying hard enough or taking the easy way out as it’s no disgrace to lose yourself amongst the sort of talent Jose Mourinho has at his disposal and it may have just been a step too far for De Bruyne at this current time.

Chelsea march on regardless and will still be celebrating the capture of Nemanja Matic from Benfica but I wish all the best to De Bruyne in Germany.
