Valencia are keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu on a permanent basis, according to local reports in Spain.

The 22-year-old was troubled with injuries for much of last season and struggled to find a place within the squad so was loaned out to the La Liga club over the summer.

Romeu has not played as often as he would like in Spain but has been in good form in recent weeks and is highly thought of at the Los Che, who would love to keep him at the club for the long term, claim local newspaper Superdeporte.

Chelsea refused Valencia an option to buy at the time the loan agreement was made as they felt at the time that he has a lot of potential and wanted to see how well he did after recovering from his knee injury, but Stamford Bridge is a tough place to make your name – especially for younger players – and he may well opt to move somewhere he is more valued. He would also be a lot nearer to his family should he remain in Spain.

I’m not quite sure what to make of Romeu in relation to his chances at Chelsea as he initially did very well when breaking into the side during Andre Villas-Boas’ time at the club but looked a little off the pace, slow, and lacking in the appropriate technique required to play in the Blues’ midfield.

The defensive midfielder is still young and has a lot of improving to do but should a decent offer come in for him then I’d reckon Chelsea would be happy to sell as they will likely seek someone more first team ready to play in their midfield.

What do you reckon the future holds for Oriol Romeu, do you want him back or should Chelsea sell for profit?
