Chelsea - Jose Mourinho Press Conference

It is only October and we are only seven games into the Premier League season but the so-called ‘silly season’ never really ends and the transfer stories are starting to pop-up a little more frequently.

Part of this is down to the fact that it’s an international break, which doesn’t have anywhere near the pull of the club game and is constantly talked about in the media whether matches are being played or not.

According to several publications Jose Mourinho seems keen on bolstering his midfield options as we have been linked with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba. Whilst Matic hasn’t ruled out a return to London in future he is happy in Lisbon and the Daily Star reckon Pogba could cost as much as £40 million.

Juventus are keen on Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke and are willing to part with Pogba as long as the right sort of cash comes in in order to fund their purchase, but I don’t reckon he’ll be going anywhere and it’d be unwise to invest a large amount into a central midfielder when we’re struggling for goals up front and there would have to be departures to accommodate him.

Another player we have been linked to is Robert Lewandowski, who has denied that he has an agreement with Bayern Munich and says he’d like to test himself in the Premier League one day. Now, I reckon Bayern probably remains his most likely destination but he’ll be a free agent in the summer and could prove to be the perfect striking option for the club if Chelsea could convince him to move to Stamford Bridge, and who better than Mourinho to do the convincing?

Finally, there’s Porto forward Jackson Martinez, who was linked with a move to West London and recent reports suggest that the Blues are determined to beat London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal to his signature.

…I’m just looking forward to seeing the players we already have playing on Saturday.
