Jose Mourinho has revealed that he pulled the plug on Demba Ba’s move to Arsenal because they were signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

Chelsea were considering an offer from Arsenal to loan Ba but it was rejected because Mourinho believes that Ozil makes them a threat, perhaps even contenders.

The Portuguese manager coached the 24-year-old during his time at Real Madrid, where they won a La Liga title, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup together, and Mourinho considers him as the best number 10 in the world.

In 2012 Mourinho said:

“Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes.

“Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.

He said following Ba’s blocked move to Arsenal:

“We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.”

He’s undoubtedly world-class and will help make Arsenal a better side, although I’m not sure he’s enough to make them title contenders as they had more pressing areas to address, but Mourinho obviously thinks very highly of the German international if he believes he could make Demba Ba look half decent.

I would question him using the ‘best number 10 in the world’ though, we have him and he goes by the name of Juan Mata. Mourinho recently revealed that he was leaving the Spaniard out because he was tired so hopefully we’ll see him back in the team soon and hopefully all this ‘not a Mourinho player’ nonsense will go away.

Anyway, I digress. Back on Ba, reports suggest that Arsenal have been left fuming after Chelsea pulled the plug on the deal as it has left them with Olivier Giroud as their only recognised striker until they can sign someone else in January. Our hearts bleed for you.
