Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski was the subject of much transfer speculation at the end of last season and beginning of the summer but the stories cooled after it became clear that the Polish international had his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich and his manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that he’d make the switch next summer.

Many fans question just why other clubs have not tried to sign the 25-year-old and some even talk about him as a potential target still, but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have tried to convince the player to join their respective clubs and it’s clear that he has made his mind up.

Lewandowski revealed that he had a conversation with Jose Mourinho, then Real Madrid manager, after their clash against Dortmund in the Champions League.

He said:

“Yes, there was a situation like this with Jose Mourinho but I wouldn’t like to talk about it much.

“It was a private conversation so I don’t want to make big things out of it. I can confirm I spoke to him.

“We spoke a few times before. I have his number in my phone. It is a huge compliment for me that a manager with such a big name is texting me this way.

“It is always nice to talk to him but it is not the first time I had such a situation.”

Sir Alex Ferguson was also trying to talk Lewandowski into a Premier League move:

“One year earlier I also spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson and that was definitely a great feeling.

“The retirement of Sir Alex didn’t affect my decision not to come to England. He spoke to me one year ago. It was not at a good time.

“I knew I still had something big to achieve in Dortmund before I joined a bigger club.”

He would have been a useful signing but is no longer an option, so it is a little puzzling why people still speak about him this way – especially on social networks and even the media – it’s clear his mind has been made up.

Meanwhile, Mourinho is set to bolster his ranks as Willian is due to be confirmed and the Portuguese manager is still chasing another striker. Samuel Eto’o’s agent said that there is a potential offer for his client to join Chelsea but the West London club are waiting to see how things pan out with Wayne Rooney before making a move on any other forward. They’ve surprised us with the Willian steal so there is no telling what will happen between now and the close of the transfer window.

Mourinho also confirmed that if players come in then it means that some of the current playing staff will depart, but likely out on loan rather than being sold.
