Jose Mourinho has said that Chelsea will try to sign a new striker up until the last day of the summer transfer window but wouldn’t be drawn into mentioning specific names.

Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge all summer but David Moyes is adamant that the players is not for sale. At the same time, Rooney looks increasingly distant and didn’t even celebrate with his team-mates after assisting two goals against Swansea on Saturday evening.

The Blues have already had two bids rejected for the 27-year-old and it’s believed that they will return with a third and final offer. Despite United’s denials every man does have a price, although it looks more likely that Rooney will be staying put at this stage and there’s no chance of him leaving if his current club fail to make any significant signings this summer.

Samuel Eto’o had been mentioned as a potential alternative and he even said that he’d one day like to work with Mourinho again. Anzhi Makhachkala have been selling players left, right and centre since their finances hit the skids and the Cameroon legend seemed destined for the exit door before his coach Gadzhi Gadzhiev confirmed that Eto’o had reached an agreement to stay at the club, so it’s off.

The press have been rehashing the Christian Benteke rumours again as they claim failure to land Rooney could move us into renewing interest (if there ever was any) in the Aston Villa forward.  There have also been links to Benfica’s Rodrigo and Porto’s Jackson Martinez, as well as some desperate links to the likes of Dimitar Berbatov.

We know the manager wants a new forward but we don’t know how badly, especially as he added that all of our current forwards will be given a chance, although I reckon Demba Ba will be out by January if we do sign one. We aren’t exactly blessed with options and I can imagine a £35m+ going in for Rooney, but will it be accepted?

Which striker would you like to see Chelsea sign before the close of the summer transfer window (if any)?

…please don’t say Roberto Lewandowski. I’ve seen a few people say this on Twitter but everyone should know he’s Bayern bound. Jurgen Klopp: “I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season.”

I think we should sign jackson martinez, he is big, fast and powerful and apart from eto’o he is the cheapest alternative that we’ve had after falcao, cavani, hulk and even rooney. 25 mill for a striker of his caliber is great in my book.

He plays for Porto. There’s no way he’ll be cheap. As soon as a big club goes in they’ll make ridiculous demands.

it is true that we need to add Jackson martinez to our squad for following up on Rooney might leave us dissapointed at the end of the transfer window

Jackson Martinez..34 goals last season. He is a complete striker. The only attribute Rooney has above him is his ability to drop back and play in the midfield.

    Lewandowski.

His contract is up in a year, and will walk to Bayern Munich for a free transfer by summer 2014. If you ask me, that’s a bit silly for his talents.
