Ba-Roma

Earlier this week it was reported that Newcastle United are interested in re-signing Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea and Roma are set to join the race for the Senegalese forward.

With Samuel Eto’o set to be confirmed as a Chelsea player before the close of the transfer window Ba is surplus to requirements and is the most likely to leave Stamford Bridge for the season.

Either of his former clubs Newcastle or West Ham represent decent option for him if he was to stick around in the Premier League but Roma, after signing Gervinho from Arsenal, have developed a taste for recruiting players nobody really wants and may look to add Ba to their ranks.

Ba was something of a panic buy for Chelsea in January as Fernando Torres was the only recognised forward at the club and Daniel Sturridge was frozen out, allegedly over demands to play at centre forward. As it stands the move has not proved successful as he’s only scored six goals in about 23 appearances for the Blues, but at the time it was a signing they simply had to make due to the amount of competitions they were competing in.

The 28-year-old make a shock start against Aston Villa and spent most of the time offside before being hooked off. I’m not entirely sure why Jose Mourinho played him, some suggested it was to put him in the shop window but that performance wouldn’t have helped and if he had injured himself we would have been stuck with him.

But all joking aside, he comes across as a decent bloke and is a good professional that does well to be as fit as he is with a knee problem that won’t ever go away, so I hope he gets a good move and out of the offers on the table I think Serie A would suit him best.
