The transfer window has been quiet for the past few weeks and as the press have run out of things to write about Wayne Rooney they are rehashing old rumours.

Before it was the Daniele De Rossi links flaring up again as he was omitted from a Roma training camp and now Sami Khedira is back on the rumour mill’s radar.

Apparently the Real Madrid and Germany has told the powers that be at the Santiago Bernabeu that he wants to quit the La Liga outfit this summer, so naturally he’s being linked with a move to Chelsea to reunite with his old boss Jose Mourinho and mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

It’ll be harder to Khedira to earn a spot in the first team at Real not that Asier Illarramendi and Casemiro have arrived, so I can understand why he may want to leave the club, especially as he want to go to the World Cup next summer, but I’m not entirely convinced that Chelsea would be interested in signing the 26-year-old at the moment.

Reports in Spain claim that Mourinho is ‘desperate’ to bring Khedira. Yes, ‘desperate’ despite the fact that no bid has been made and the only players he has spoken about have been Rooney and Samuel Eto’o, as he said he was please the latter was keen to work with him again.

With Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, Ramires and Marco van Ginkel in the squad already I don’t think Chelsea really need another midfielder even if it may take some time finding the right balance between the aforementioned. Kevin De Bruyne and Oscar are also capable of playing a little deeper in the midfield if required.

For Khedira to come in it’ll cost between £8m-15m which is money the club really doesn’t need to spend, so why bother? They’ll also have to move on an existing midfielder, with Mikel being linked with an exit, but I’d fail to see the point in it. If Khedira was one of the best midfielders in Europe it’d be different, but he isn’t.
