Reports in Spain claim that Malaga will make an audacious move for either Demba Ba or Romelu Lukaku before the close of the transfer window.

I don’t reckon it’s likely Jose Mourinho will allow the La Liga side to have Lukaku, especially as he can still qualify as home-grown should he complete the current season in England, so Ba is their best bet if they’re interested.

Mourinho confirmed that if players come in then there would be departures (most likely loans) if any more players were to come in as he prefers to work with small squads. If Willian completes his move then Victor Moses is suspected to go out on loan, and if Wayne Rooney, Jackson Martinez or Samuel Eto’o arrive then Ba will be the casualty.

Malaga aren’t the only side linked with Ba at the moment as Roma, who are likely to lose Erik Lamela, want to bolster their attacking options and there’s no telling which clubs will panic as the allocated transfer window draws to a close. I’ve read a few pieces that also tip either Schalke or Hoffenheim to make their interest in Ba known.

Ba didn’t have the best of starts to life at Stamford Bridge with six goals in 22 games and was arguably something of a panic buy after Daniel Sturridge fell out with the club before leaving for Liverpool leaving a struggling Fernando Torres as the only centre forward last season, but it wouldn’t be his performances that would put potential suitors off as he was prolific for Newcastle United beforehand, it’s his dodgy knees.

Someone will be willing to look past that and I doubt Ba will want to stick around as he’s already behind Torres and Lukaku, never mind any new forward that may come in the door, but where will the Senegalese forward go and will it be a loan or a sale?
