WallaceJose Mourinho confirmed that Chelsea right-back Wallace will be loaned to a European club for the 2013-14 season and sang the Brazilian’s praises following the opening preseason friendly.

The Portuguese manager said:

“He is a very good player. I knew him before. He is very mature for his age and comfortable with the ball. He has the quality of a Brazilian full-back who likes to attack and create.

“He is a good player but he won’t be staying with us because we have [Branislav] Ivanovic and [Cesar] Azpilicueta for the same position and he’s also non-EC so we’ll not get the visa. It will be too early, so he’ll go on loan for a season.

“We’ll find the best option for him, in Europe. We want him to adapt. We’ll see the best of him. He has talent and is one more investment for this club, a good investment, because the kid is a very good player.”

The 19-year-old put on a good show during the 1-0 win against the Singha All-Stars yesterday afternoon and won the penalty that Romelu Lukaku converted.

I hope he gets a good loan move and plays the regular football he deserves to as he’s obviously a talented fullback. He had been linked with a move to Roma as part of a deal which could see Daniele De Rossi come to Stamford Bridge but they have recently confirmed the signing of former Manchester City player Maicon, so that option seems unlikely and I’d rather see Wallace move to a club where he will actually play.

Seeing as Tomas Kalas won’t be going back to Vitesse Arnhem that could be an ideal destination for Wallace as it’s a relationship that is working well for both sides so far and they’ll be needing to replace Kalas, so Wallace could be first choice there.

He’s a promising talent either way and will be one to keep an eye on wherever he ends up over the coming season.

Based on what? Azpilicueta had a really good debut season.

The fact Wallace can’t play for Chelsea has nothing to do with Mourinho anyway – work permit
