After the final match of Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Asia which ended with the 8-1 thrashing against an Indonesian All-Star side Jose Mourinho was full of praise for his players and his squad will be given a boost as Andre Schurrle, Frank Lampard and Kevin De Bruyne will train with the squad on Monday, as well as the players that took part in the FIFA Confederations Cup.

On the fitness of the players, Mourinho said:

“Lampard is okay to train Monday so Monday he will join the group. We protect every little situation and today we protected Schurrle, we sent De Bruyne home but Lampard preferred to stay and have treatment here with the group.

“Monday we are ready to have Lampard, Schurrle and De Bruyne working with the team, and with the six guys that arrive to train on Sunday who played in the Confederations Cup.”

Whereas the club weren’t taking any chances with Lampard and Schurrle there was genuine concern for De Bruyne, who was stretchered off against Malaysia XI, as medical staff feared he may have damaged the meniscus and was flown back to London for tests. Thankfully the Belgian has been given the all-clear as an injury now would do no good for his bid to play regularly in Chelsea’s first XI.

It’s good news for Chelsea on the injury front as the squad have been given a clean bill of health and hopefully it remains that way as they prepare for their first match of the US tour which starts on August 1st against Inter Milan in Indianapolis. The Blues will also play either AC Milan or Valencia in New York on the 4th, the opponent is tbc for their Miami date and they’ll finish with an extra game against Roma in Washington.

It’s a busy summer for the club playing seven pre-season fixtures split in the East and West on top of the two games played against Manchester City during a mini-US tour in May, let’s hope it won’t take too much out of them ahead of our opening two fixtures against Hull and Aston Villa on the 18th and 21st of August respectively.
