Another European giant linked with Chelsea star but the club should only sell for a king’s ransom

Luiz goal-line clearanceThe future of Chelsea’s David Luiz has often been discussed by the press so far this summer and recent reports suggest that Bayern Munich will emerge as a new contender for his signature.

Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of the Brazilian defender and will battle his former club Barcelona for the player’s signature, according to Spanish publication Sport and the Daily Mail.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with Luiz and Barcelona are rumoured to be keeping a close eye on their defender Thiago Silva, so will probably attempt a big money move if they lost their centre back but they won’t be able to attract the sort of talent they could now that Laurent Blanc has replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the Parisian club.

Luiz has been on international duty up until Sunday when he won the FIFA Confederations Cup and played excellently in the final (that goal-line clearance was something else) but he’s yet to meet Jose Mourinho so we don’t know what the Portuguese has in store for the 26-year-old and where he would fit in his plans.

I’m sure that Chelsea aren’t actively looking to sell Luiz, who has been earmarked as a potential captain, but should an offer of around £35 million come in then I could see him moving on and the money being invested on a more dependable centre-half.

Luiz is obviously very popular amongst a section of the Chelsea support and although he drives a few of us mad it’s a mark of his quality that he’s been linked with clubs the calibre of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and European Champions Bayern Munich.

My guess is none of these will end up stumping up the cash it would take to prise him away from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea shouldn’t accept anything less than £35m under any circumstances.
