Everton may have abandoned their interested in Chelsea winger Victor Moses who was expected to join his former manager Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park.

The Liverpool Echo reported that the Toffees initially wanted to sign him on a loan but that is no longer on the cards as well as the rumours that suggested he was to be subject to an £8 million bid.

Moses didn’t have a bad start at Stamford Bridge and scored 10 goals in 43 appearances over his first campaign at the West London club but could find himself surplus to requirement despite this.

Chelsea recently invested in Bayer Leverkusen winger Andre Schurrle, who Jose Mourinho says is ready to make an impact in the Premier League and the Portuguese manager ought to give Kevin De Bruyne fair opportunities after he made a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen and has often outshone the likes of Eden Hazard at international level for Belgium.

The 22-year-old’s main advantage seems to be his home grown status at this stage but with Juan Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle and De Bruyne around it does look like he’s got far to much competition for him to get the sort of playing time Moses may expect.

He did travel with the Mourinho and the squad for the pre-season tour in Asia as expected which would suggest that any deal that would see him leave Chelsea isn’t close, but you couldn’t rule it out just because he’s there as he could just as easily be sent back to England or elsewhere for negotiations.

I’m not sure what will happen with Moses but I cannot see him playing as regularly as he did last season and he may even prefer to go to another club for the upcoming season.
