jose_mourinho_i_robert_lewandowski_640x360_crop_rozmiar-niestandardowyAs Edinson Cavani looks set for a move to Paris Saint-Germain the media, who are certain we’re signing a forward, have linked us with a move for Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski again.

Jose Mourinho was heavily linked with the player during the Spring whilst he was still Real Madrid’s manager and the Daily Star believe he wants to sell Demba Ba to Anzhi Makhachkala in order to raise funds for the forward’s purchase.

Now, the first part I believe as there isn’t going to be a lot of opportunities at Stamford Bridge for Ba as both Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku will be ahead of him in the pecking order but Lewandowski would seem hell-bent on joining Dortmund’s Bungesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski is in the last year of his contract and there would be nothing to stop the 24-year-old moving to the Allianz Arena whether Dortmund buckle now or if he goes for free next summer.

It all depends on how much he would want that move and if there’s a manager that could talk someone around it’s Mourinho and I don’t doubt that Dortmund would prefer to sell abroad than lose a prized asset to a league rival.

He’d represent better value for money than someone like Cavani and has impressed at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League. Last season he scored 36 goals in 48 games which is an impressive total and he has decent potential for a good resale value at his age.

I’d take Lewandowski at Chelsea in a heartbeat but I can’t help but feel that his desire to join Bayern may be too strong to dissuade him at this stage. If Mourinho does have any plans to go for him then now is the time to do it as we really ought to be taking as much of a complete squad on pre season as possible.

I agree – Never wanted Falcao or Cavani for Chelsea – they are not Chelsea material. Lewandowski would be perfect for us! I would spare no effort or money to make this happen – Lukaku, Torres, Lewandowski – that would be a formidable strike force
