Daniele De Rossi could soon be a Chelsea player if reports in the Independent are anything to go by as they claim that a deal is ‘all-but-agreed’.

To me that just sounds such a non-committal statement that doesn’t really mean anything but the theory is that if/when PSV’s Kevin Strootman moves to Roma it will pave the way for De Rossi to leave the club.

Both the Mirror and reports in Italy believe that a deal is close an the 29-year-old and a fee of £11 million plus Wallace on loan. As the Brazilian fullback is already 19 and there’s no way he could gain home-grown status by remaining in England it wouldn’t be a bad move for him…as long as he plays.

However, the club may prefer to hold onto the player so that he can settle into his new environment and work with the team before letting him go anywhere.

De Rossi would add a lot of experience to the midfield and is a leader, but he would command bid wages and he hasn’t been in the best of form for his club over the last 18 months. As a fan of the player I’d love to have him but still have my reservations and if he’s coming in then someone has to go to make way for him, but who? If it’s John Obi Mikel, a 26-year-old, then it’s not worth it.

Despite showing excellent form for Italy during the Confederations Cup the 29-year-old did not have the best of times in Serie A last season and Roma would appear keen to clear his big wages off their books and go for a younger option in Strootman.

Do you think this deal could happen and would De Rossi will be a valuable addition to the Chelsea squad?
