Chelsea target needs first-team football, says Le Saux
The 17-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League with the Saints and is being tracked by the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal.
He’s currently rated at around £10m and reports suggest that officials at Chelsea are keeping an eye on Shaw, who is a fan of the West London club, but with Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt already on the books there isn’t a desperate need for a left back at Chelsea for the time being.
Le Saux said:
“Luke is a good young prospect, but I think it is important that he develops and plays first-team football.”

He’s showing a lot of promise and is probably best off where he is at the moment as it’s doubtful he will play as many games if he was to make the switch to Chelsea. Although he’s a potential target of the club they would probably prefer for him to remain at St Mary’s Stadium to continue his development and the Blues will only get involved if another party comes in for him this summer.
Even if we do sign him this summer it would be likely that he would be loaned straight back to Southampton, so probably no need for Le Saux or anyone else to fret over his development.
Shaw made 28 appearances for Southampton in all competitions this seasons and has represented his country at both under-16 and under-17 level. He was due to appear for England’s under-21s side in the European Championships this summer but has been forced to withdraw from Stuart Pearce’s squad because of a back injury.
