We already heard rumours of Chelsea’s fresh interest in Zenit St Petersburg forward Hulk but the man himself has hinted at interest during a Brazil press conference on Thursday afternoon.
The 26-year-old it thought to be desperate to quit Russia following his near £50m transfer to Zenit from Porto last summer and his club may be willing to cut their losses on him and accept around £35m.
When asked of Chelsea’s interest, the Brazilian replied:
“If I said there wasn’t anything in it, I would be lying. But that is not for now. At the moment, I am 100 per cent focused on the Selecao (Portuguese for the Brazil team), and I hope to be a Confederations Cup winner with my country.
“It is a matter of great pride for me to be playing in the yellow jersey, so near to my family. Other matters will have to wait until afterwards.”
If something does happen then as he says it’s unlikely to be before the end of the Confederations Cup which will be wrapped up at the end of this month, but that doesn’t mean a price cannot be agreed with the club as well as terms with the player’s representatives in the meantime.
The story in the Mail said that Zenit will probably reject Chelsea’s offer initially but with no alternate buyer they may be forced to accept it eventually.
One thing is for sure, Chelsea are lacking in a few key areas and Jose Mourinho has plenty of work ahead of him if we’re to overturn to huge points deficits we’ve finished behind the league leaders in the past two seasons. Manchester City have wasted no time this summer and have already secured the signings of a couple of players suggesting that they mean business.
The Blues are three or four signings from being a serious title challenging outfit but will have to make sure their choices are wise ones and not let our rivals get one-up on us.
