Fernando-Torres-Mask-Wallpaper-544x960Barcelona are interested in signing Chelsea forward Fernando Torres as Jose Mourinho does not want him at the club and he could go for around €20 million, according to reports in the Spanish press.

In all honesty this particular transfer rumour made me laugh at first viewing. It’s true that Torres had the best season of his Chelsea career since joining in the January of 2011 but his goal return just not good enough. He only managed eight in the Premier League despite playing in and starting the bulk of 36 games out of 38, which is less than Gabriel Agbonlahor and Kevin Nolan to put it in context, and 22 in over 60 games doesn’t represent value for money.

There are often a ton of excuses made for Torres, ranging from the ‘lack of service’ to made up fact like ‘Demba Ba played most of the Premier League games’, so the idea of Barcelona being interested in taking him which would save us three years of his wages, near £30m, just seems a little too good to be true.

However, Spanish football expert Graham Hunter believes that the staff at Camp Nou believe that they can get better out of Torres and it is a story that is worthy keeping tabs on.

Hunter told talkSPORT:

“The technical people at the Nou Camp are saying there is a chance to get a rejuvenated Fernando Torres.

“That is something to keep an eye on in the next couple of weeks.”

Mourinho has said that he respects him as a professional and will hold talks with him to decide what is best for the club and seeing as Romelu Lukaku will be with us next season as well as the likely signing of a new forward, there would not be many reasons for Torres to stick around and he’d be desperate for playing time in the lead up to a World Cup. Chelsea won’t be able to give it to him and I hope Jose puts the needs of Lukaku first as he’s the one with a future at the club.
