What next for Romelu Lukaku?

Romelu Lukaku has completed a successful season on-loan at West Brom which has sparked some debate over whether or not the forward should be loaned out again next season or not.

The 20-year-old Belgian played 35 games for the Baggies this season, scored 17 goals in the Premier League (puts Fernando Torres to shame) and made seven assists for his team mate’s to boot.

His finished the season in style against Manchester United’s final game under Sir Alex Ferguson by scoring a hat-trick in a thrilling 5-5 draw, it’s no surprise that everyone is talking about him and West Brom keeper Ben Foster says Chelsea would be mad to loan him back to the Hawthorns next season.

I think Lukaku could definitely do a good job at Chelsea next season and could have done so this campaign but his spell at West Brom is testimony to the fact that he is much better off playing regular football, so his next move should ensure that it continues.

It’s already been suggested by the media and Rafael Benitez that the Blues will invest in the summer and if £100m is being spent on ‘three or four’ players then you can more or less guarantee that a big-name forward will be making his way to Stamford Bridge. Whilst Lukaku would be a more than able number 2, is it the best thing for him?

He’s been incredible so far but is still a little raw, rough around the edges, and the difference between playing and sitting on the bench is obvious as he has soared in everyone’s estimation just by being on the pitch. If he’s going to play a significant chunk of games next season then keep him but we would only be stunting his development if he’s only going to play in the cups and off the bench.

There have been rumours that he may be loaned out to Swansea and if he is to go anywhere then you’d be hard-pressed to think of a better environment for next season. He has some experience under his belt now as well as goals, and can learn a lot from Michael Laudrup and Swansea’s football philosophy. They’re also in the Europa League next season which will give him vital European experience. I also think he’d provide the perfect foil for Michu.

Where do you hope to see Lukaku next season? Is he ready for Chelsea?
