Mourinho’s Real departure could be confirmed this week
Jose Mourinho is expected to meet with Florentino Perez this evening as his Real Madrid exit is all but confirmed. It’s likely that the timing of the announcement will be discussed and a few loose ends tied up as the club make preparations for Carlo Ancelotti, another former Blues, to succeed him. The meeting has been brought forward, according to Sky, so it would seems as though things are going well in terms of replacing him.
It has been a disastrous season for the Portuguese coach, who only signed an extension last summer, as his side fell way behind a team that has seen better days and hasn’t even had a manager through most of the season, was embarrassed in the Champions League and lost a domestic cup final to their bitter rivals on their own patch.
Mourinho has fallen out with just about every at the club, as he does, including the majority of fans and playing staff, whilst the media has been baying for his blood.
PSG have already confirmed that Ancelotti has asked to leave and there won’t be a whole lot they can do to keep him at this stage bar throw money at him, but he’ll be paid handsomely in Madrid and this is more about prestige and challenge than cash for the Italian. Ancelotti is in demand…I can’t help but think back to the way Chelsea dealt with him.
Anyway, rightly or wrongly, it seems as though Mourinho’s imminent exit is to be announced soon and he’ll be on his way to Chelsea, where everyone associated with the club has discussed him fairly openly and left little room for doubt.
I don’t think that Chelsea will make any official announcement immediately after Real confirm his departure as the Blues have a post-season tour in the US and will likely save anything like that for early June.
