Bayer Leverkusen winger Andre Schurrle had been getting a little agitated over his proposed move to Stamford Bridge but it appears that he may soon get his wish.

Leverkusen’s outgoing chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser has told the Rheinische Post that an agreement with Chelsea that will see the German international move to West London and one of our players going the other way on loan.

Holzhauser said:

“We are in agreement with Chelsea. They buy [Andre] Schurrle for a certain transfer fee and in return [Kevin] de Bruyne is sent on a one-year loan.

“I assume that Chelsea stand by what has been agreed upon.”

It’s good to hear that De Bruyne won’t be leaving Chelsea on a permanent basis and interest from Dortmund may have delayed the Schurrle deal as there have been several stories suggesting that the Belgian was on his way to the Champions League runners-up.

It should prove to be a good loan for De Bruyne, who is arguably already good enough to be in our team, as he continues in his development and I’m sure he’ll be happy to be at a club that is playing in the Champions League next season.

As for Schurrle, I wouldn’t put him alongside Germany’s current crop of top young talent and isn’t near the standard of Marco Reus at the moment but he is still only 22-years-old will hopefully thrive in a new environment under a new coach. He’ll be direct on the counter attack and will help provide pace and width, whilst cutting in from the left onto his favoured right foot. He is known for scoring a few long-ranged efforts and like to shoot…perhaps a little bit too much.

Schurrle has scored 14 goals in 43 games for Bayer Leverkusen this season and made nine assists. He’s also made 23 appearances for his country, scoring seven goals for Die Mannschaft.
