Thibaut-Courtois_2948805Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been hugely impressive during his time on loan at Atletico Madrid and he recently declared his wish to stay on at the La Liga club via Twitter.

Courtois is arguably the brightest young goalkeeper in Europe at the moment a talent that was recognised by Chelsea and moved them to purchase the Belgian from Genk in 2011 before being loaned to Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old has been a huge success at the Vicente Calderon picking up the Europa League during the last campaign as well as winning the Super Cup and Copa del Rey this season. He’s even become a cult figure (see ‘Thibauting‘) in Spain.

He Tweeted:

Which means:

“Thank you very much to all athletic for this season! Your support in every game has been amazing!

“I want to stay here one more year to continue sharing joy with you!”

No doubt the media will try to paint this as meaning his Chelsea future is in doubt but in a recent interview he said that he has faith in Chelsea’s youth policy and will be ready for the call when it comes, he certainly doesn’t seem the type that is losing patience.

The truth is that he’s probably good enough to be Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper already and I guess he knows that as well, but Chelsea already have Petr Cech who is still at the top of his game and hasn’t shown any sign of going anywhere or stepping down as a number two. There’s no point in bringing Courtois back yet as he’s far too good to be warming our bench, so is best of where he is.
