CavaniReports in Italy today claim that Chelsea have officially made their interest in Edinson Cavani known to Napoli and will join the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

The 26-year-old definitely looks as though he is set for a big move this summer and it was originally thought that City represented the most likely destination as Napoli are keen on Edin Dzeko, but he’ll go to the highest bidder and a lot would boil down to the player’s personal preference.

Cavani won’t entertain speculation in public and maintains that he is only thinking about his career at the Serie A club for the time being and will speak to the club’s president if he feels the need to.

The Uruguayan told Ovacion Digital:

“Real Madrid, Chelsea and [Manchester] City are interested in me? I just think about Napoli.

“If an important offer were to come in, I will talk with president De Laurentiis.

“I’m fine in Italy, I have grown as a man there and as a player with the Serie A experience.”

His father had previously said that Cavani’s future could lie in Spain and City have more than money to offer to Napoli at this stage but this is said to be the first time that Chelsea have made any sort of official approach for the player and if there’s a manager that could convince a player it’s Jose Mourinho, with the rumour being that the Portuguese manager has made a personal request for the Blues to enter the race for the forward.

Cavani enjoyed a great 2012/13 campaign with Napoli as he finished top scorer in the league with 29 goals and 38 in all competitions, five assists.

With Radamel Falcao seemingly off to AS Monaca and Robert Lewandowski destined for a move to Bayern Munich, is Napoli’s Edinson Cavani the best option available to lead Chelsea’s attacking line next season? – Let us know what your think in the comments sections below.

And of course Benitez will want Torres so Chelsea will be in the same position as City except City have been courting Napoli about this since they played in the CL last year.

    Real Madrid want Bale.

If lewandowski goes to bayern munich, chelsea should have a go for mario gomez. Less money than cavani, about the same quality

Mario gomez is too old for the blues we don’t want him I mean why wasting money on him whilst we’ve got lukaku who’s much more younger nd stronger than him and he can score goals lyk him ?
