keanmaster_2701662This has to be the oddest rumour I have seen regarding Jose Mourinho so far but James Nursey in the Mirror believes that the Portuguese manager want to appoint Steve Kean if he returns to Stamford Bridge as manager.

The Spanish media have already made their minds up that Mourinho will be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season (likely) and also believe he’s going back to Chelsea. The English media are just desperate to have him back, especially Sky considering the damp squib that was this season’s title race which isn’t great for selling subscriptions.

Kean, infamous for his spell at Blackburn Rovers, is a shock contender to be a part of Mourinho’s staff should he return to his former club where he won back-to-back Premier League titles, as rumours suggest that the Portuguese manager is already planning for the future.

I wasn’t expecting to hear Kean’s name mentioned in relation to Chelsea but it isn’t the first time that he has been linked with a job at Stamford Bridge as he was mooted as a potential assistant manager to Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2008 with his fluency in Portuguese believed to be the reason for the Blues’ interest in him.

We all know that Mourinho likes to take his own staff with him wherever he goes and also likes to appoint an assistant that is from the league he’s working in but his favourite Scot Steve Clarke is unavailable which is why Nursey believes he may opt for Kean.

Kean was hated at Ewood Park by the Blackburn fans when he succeeded Sam Allardyce as manager because they believed that he had betrayed his former boss, it didn’t help that they were relegated in the following season and he left the post back in September.

In his defence Blackburn Rovers are in a complete mess and I think it has a lot more to do with Venky’s terrible mismanagement than anything Kean did. Despite his poor spell there he is still thought of in the game and it’s understood that he recently turned down Panathinaikos’ job offer.

I can’t see him getting an unlikely return under Mourinho, it isn’t even certain that he’s even coming to Chelsea next season. But we’ll hear plenty of daft rumours between now and then. Only yesterday was Mourinho causing a furore by purchasing packing boxes and masking tape in Ikea…could be for his daughter, the only Mourinho that is confirmed as moving to London to attend an art college.

At the very least it’s a highly amusing and surprising rumour.

As a Blackburn Fan, I sincerely hope you never have this imposter at your club.

    Where do we start?
He took a team that was in 8th under Sam and nearly relegated us in his first season. Only staying up thanks to the points sam gained in the first part of the season.

He had the worst record in blackburns 125 years history with a win percentage of 22%

He was continually making bizarre formations and left us exposed time and again.

He fell out with our senior stars and replaced them with unheard of players that have all since left the club, losing millions in the process.

And here’s the straw that broke the camels back with the fans – he signed his agents son. A player who had managed 2 mins for aberdeen and was so bad he didnt play a single minute for us. He’s now at exeter where he struggles to get a game.
But that didnt stop kean giving him a 20k a week contract.

That & his piss poor record was why the rovers fans sang for him to leave the club every week.

Thank you very much for your comment, Andrew.

I knew all was not well and there was obviously a good reason why there was so much protestation over his being there. I think you’ve successfully put all the reasons why many hope this is just a daft rumour in a nutshell.

And I had no idea about the whole agent’s son issue. Mental. Good luck to in future, hopefully someone will repair the damage.
