Jose-LukaJose Mourinho wants to bring Luka Modric from Real Madrid with him when the Portuguese manager makes his return to Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun‘s Rob Beasley.

The 50-year-old will take charge of his final games as Los Blancos manager on June 1st against Osasuna and is expected in London to seal the deal with Chelsea shortly after, but he’s already been linked with a host of Real’s players, including Sami Khedira, Fabio Coentrao and now Modric.

Modric was heavily linked with Chelsea and expressed his desire to play for the club but the move didn’t materialise and the Croatian was eventually transferred to the Spanish capital. Now Beasley believes Mourinho is willing to test Real Madrid by tabling a £30 million bid for the 27-year-old.

The report quoted a ‘Chelsea insider’:

“Mourinho’s very keen to clinch a deal for Modric.

“He knows it will be tough but if anyone can make it happen, we believe Jose can.”

(The Sun)

Modric had struggled to impose himself in La Liga and was even voted as the worst signing of 2012 when Real paid over £30 million for his services. He made 51 total appearances for the club, scoring 4 and assisting 8 times. If the club were willing to sell then Mourinho would have inside knowledge on that but I’m unsure Florentino Perez, although he fought Mourinho’s corner often, will be keen on selling him any of their players as he isn’t exactly parting on the best of terms.

Also, Chelsea failed with £22m and £27m bids whilst Modric was at Tottenham, the latter was already more than the player’s worth and I think that ship has sailed. I can’t imagine Chelsea will want to go back there and doubt they’d be willing to part with £30m.

When the likes of Joao Moutinho are going for around €25 million I can’t help but think there’s better value for money out there, but what are your thoughts? – Have your say in the comments section below

This story isn’t even original to the Sun and reeks of lazy journalism. Unless the so-called ‘inside source’ is Michael Emanalo, it’s nothing more than idle speculation. Anyway, we don’t need another small midfielder. We already have better.

  2. Bond says:

I accept Modric if the Transfer fee is £16 million any thing more than that keep him in Madrid also I’ll prefer Alonso for £25 million

i would like to see modric to chelsea, he’s a good player that can dictate the pace of the game. his passing range is quite good too. but 30 million is too much.

  4. chibest says:

Really love him as all action mildfielder, just wish its real

  5. SVN says:

He’s one of the best players in the world, he would be a perfect solution to our double pivot crisis, he can play alongside a defensive midfielder and control the tempo of the game, get the balls to the forward players quickly and help us keep the possession. 30m is nothing for his talent, we won’t regret it. And since he’s a technical player, who relies on his footballing brain, he can play for around 10 more years, like pirlo.

  6. Parks says:

I would take the plunge and pay 30 mil for him. His work rate and ability to play in tight areas is exceptional , he would complement hazard mata and oscar because he plays the same way.

Negative, this signing would be irrelevant
