RobertLewandowski_2935023Borussia Dortmund are hopeful that Chelsea will fend off Bayern Munich for the signature of star striker Roberto Lewandowski and Kevin De Bruyne could be used in the transfer, according to the Daily Star.

Dortmund have already lost Mario Götze to their Bundesliga rivals – who they will meet in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley Stadium – and letting another one of their key players leave for the Allianz Arena would be a disaster in terms of their domestic hopes.

Manchester United have long been linked with a move for the £25 million-rate Polish international and they remain an option for Lewandowski but De Bruyne would be a huge sweetener in any potential deal with Chelsea. It’s also rumoured that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the forward and the Portuguese manager is likely bound for Stamford Bridge and as he’s willing to compromise on the club’s current recruitment structure, the board may turn their attentions from Radamel Falcao to Lewandowski at his request.

Of course Bayern Munich remain the likeliest destination for the 24-year-old and it is the move that he prefers, but a move to Chelsea or Manchester United would be significantly less controversial and Dortmund will hope the West London club could tempt him with a better terms than Bayern would offer.

No report I have read specifies whether or not Dortmund would be loaning or signing De Bruyne if he was included in the deal but I reckon  it’s likely that they want him on a permanent deal. He may also be interested in going to Dortmund himself which could explain the complications in the Andre Schurrle deal.

Lewandowski has scored 35 goals in 43 appearances for Dortmund, including four goals against Mourinho’s Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final. He’s also made 10 assists this season so far.
