Radamel Falcao-2013-01Manchester United are now in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao after Chelsea have decided to drop out of the race, according to reports.

The Daily Star claim that the Colombian is far to expensive at his approximate ยฃ50 million evaluation, especially for a player aged 27 and perhaps they’re a little tentative after the purchase of Fernando Torres for similar money from Liverpool, if we are to assume the rumour is true.

It’s also said by the tabloid that Zenit St Petersburg’s Hulk may be an alternative as although he’s come at a price and is only a year younger, it won’t be as much money as Falcao and it’s often suggested that he could have a Drogba-like impact at Stamford Bridge.

However, Robert Lewandowski’s name is being mentioned alongside Chelsea’s with increasing regularity recently as the majority of Europe’s media seem to believe Jose Mourinho is nailed-on to succeed Rafa Benitez at the West London club and it’s though that he is a big fan of the Polish forward. The 24-year-old will enter the final year of his contract at Dortmund at the end of the season, so the German club will be forced to sell him and it’s likely that they’d prefer to sell him to a foreign club rather than Bayern Munich.

Dortmund also have an interest in Chelsea’s Kevin De Bruyne, who the Blues would rather not sell but the player may be keen on joining the Champions League finalists as a replacement for Mario Gotze who will move to Bayern next season. I think it far more likely that De Bruyne would be allowed to leave if Chelsea could land Lewandowski than letting him move to Bayer Leverkusen. Reports also suggest that the young Belgian isn’t keen on going to Leverkusen on loan as a makeweight in the Andre Schurrle purchase.

I don’t think it’s likely that Chelsea will completely end their interest in Falcao as they will always be interested when the best players become available, but perhaps they believe someone else will represent better value for money.

swap KDB with Lewandowski, no money involve ..justice done! No Falcao is awesome, invest money and buy a RW and a deep play maker some one like Modric.
