Sergio Aguero will face no action following his two-footed lunge at David Luiz’s backside during the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The Argentine forward got a bit wound-up after the Brazilian defender tried to knock him away from the ball as the two chased it down and retaliated with a really poor challenge.
Unsurprisingly, and as I predicted yesterday, no action will be taken against Aguero as confirmed by the Football Association who won’t punish the player retrospectively as Chris Foy must have seen at least part of the incident as he awarded Chelsea a free-kick.
It is incredibly worrying that these people with this logic are governing football in this country, it is an incredibly flawed system that and this isn’t the first time the FA’s waffle has raised eyebrows amongst fans, pundits, players and managers alike.
Perhaps Newcastle United put it best when they described the FA’s disciplinary procedures as ‘not fit for purpose’ after the failed to punish Wigan’s Callum McManaman for his horrific challenge on Massadio Haidara last month. The tackle, if you can call it that, left Haidara in a heap and he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, yet they said that McManaman couldn’t be punished as at least one official saw it.
This is also the same FA that wanted to punish Eden Hazard further than the three-match ban he received following a tussle with a ball boy during the Carling Cup semi-final and actively fuelled the hype around a flashpoint that was nowhere near as bad as portrayed, yet acts of blatant thuggery go unpunished all to often and it isn’t just about the incident yesterday, it has an effect on all the clubs in the football league.
They’re so keen to hid behind the stance that do not want to re-referee incidents on the pitch as it undermines the officials and that FIFA does not allow retrospective action if the referee had seen or dealt with the situation at the time. In truth it is nothing more than the excuse that they decide to give as FIFA have given associations clearance to penalise wrongdoings after the event and in countries like France, among others, we have seen yellows upgraded to reds and punishment dished out for wrongdoings that were caught on film.
Things must change for the sake of the game and the safety of the professionals involved.
Mayhaps Rooney’s attempt to snap Zabaleta’s ankle with a two footer on Monday night should be looked at then? Thought not!

I’ll have to take your word on the Rooney/Zabaleta incident, but yes.
Form doesn’t matter and a poor excuse for what happened, like the fact Giggs can kick players off the park as ‘he isn’t that sort of player’ but someone with a bad rep gets booked for much less.
What drivel. The thug, David Luiz, has been dishing it out all season. He elbowed Aguero three times on Sunday, twice in the chest and once in the head. And got away with it. Did he not do the same V Brentford? Furthermore, if you want an example of a nasty, malicious and pre-meditated foul, then look no further than Torres, as he raked his studs down Aguero’s achilles tendon. Why? To hurt him. Did anyone from City or the Media call for this to be ‘re-refereed’? Clearly not. Foy saw the ‘offence’ and made his judgement, in a game that was generally well officiated and allowed to flow. What hurts is that City won and did so deservedly. The only ‘unfair’ thing was the scoreline. City should have been 4 up by half time. Whatever happened to the Chelsea defence and what’s with the Pulis long ball stuff?
What Luiz did to the Brentford kid was cowardly and is the sort of thing that could be retrospectively punished. He’s been wild at other times too, but does that make it ok to lunge at him (or anyone)? No.
So with all due respect, that’s drivel.
As a City fan, I agree Aguero should be banned, was out of order. I am all for retrospective action on all decisions (especially diving) even if seen, as refs can miss the full incident from the angle they can see things, so if another angle proves that the punishment doesnt fit the crime then they should be able to over rule the original decision and apply a ban. Having said that you did forget to metion Luiz horror shoulder into that young Brentford lads chin.
I haven’t forgotten that and as I said, it isn’t club specific.
Everyone should be punished for such things, Chelsea included.
Have to say a very poor decision. He, along with Luiz for his violent elbow and Torres for raking his studs on Aguero’s leg should have been banned for 3 matches each.
I agree there system is “not fit for purpose”. Retrospectively both Aguero and the Chelsea player who raked his studs down the back of Aguero’s calf should have been considered for punishment.
Surely this week F.A should also look at the stamp down Aguero’s leg by Torres then as well? And as somebody mentioned Rooney’s two footed lunge which caught Milner the press just totally ignored? Look like they pick their targets doesn’t it?
I didn’t see half as many replays of the Luiz one as the Torres one, but yes, this isn’t an agenda against any club and I have nothing against City. This is just one example of a flawed system littered with errors.

Just to clarify, I’m not digging out City here. I’m pointing the finger at the FA.
Every club has players that are guilty of such things, us included.
As a City fan I hope Aguero apologises as its the right thing to do. Fair play to Chelsea and Luiz as they have not made a big deal on this as Tottenham did when Balloteli “stepped” on Parker last season.
I have seen Agueo can involved when scuffles start e.g. With Ferdinand in Derby, but I have not seen this type of reaction before.
Luiz is a Great player and wasted in defence. I saw him influence the game in midfield when Chelsea beat Brentford. He elbowed someone late on in that game while winning 4-0 off the ball- wonder if he apologised! Hopefully not another Fellani/ Huth!

I don’t think I have seen anything like that from Aguero before either but his temper obviously flared during this particular flash point and I believe that Foy ignoring fouls ‘letting the game run’ for both sides didn’t help matters.
Could have been any one of those players to lose it. As can happen in any game, just important to stamp it out (no pun intended).
