Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Juan Mata are amongst the names on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award, whilst Hazard is also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award along with Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez, Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie make up the rest of the names on the Player of the Year award, which Bale is the favourite for according to SkyBet.
The Welshman is also shortlisted for the young player award with Hazard, Lukaku, Christian Benteke, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere.
I don’t think either Mata, Hazard or Lukaku will win the awards as I’m expecting a love-in over Bale, who is the Tottenham team, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the winning of the young player of the year award will be British too, despite the fact Welbeck has only scored two goals this season and Wilshere has only featured 28 times.
However, it is nice to see that our players have been recognised by their peers and Mata would be as worthy a winner of PotY as Bale or van Persie would. The little Spaniard has 18 goals and 25 assists this season, and I believe the Blues would have been lost without him this season. Although I’ll go with the bookies and predict Bale as the eventual winner even though it ought to be van Persie as it was his goals that opened up the gap in the table that is seeing Manchester United cruise to yet another title win this season.
In my opinion Hazard has been the best young player by a country mile during his debut season with a whopping 22 assists and twelve goals so far and Lukaku has the best goal to game-time ratio in the league.
