Jose Mourinho has been widely tipped as the next Chelsea boss whilst Bruce Buck recently refused to rule out his potential return to Stamford Bridge when he stated that the club are ‘open minded’ when it comes to seeking Rafael Benitez’s successor.

There has also been a fair amount of rumour flying around in relation to which players may be signed or sold should Mourinho take over the helm at Chelsea this summer, including rumours that he sees Zenit St Petersburg’s Hulk as the type of player that could have a Drogba-like impact at the West London club.

The most recent offering is from the Express who have reported on German publication Bild‘s claims that the self-proclaimed Special One would like to bring Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira with him when he makes his return to the Premier League club.

It is reported that Mourinho is a big fan of the 26-year-old that has played his part in helping Real Madrid reach the last four of the Champions League and believes that his aerial presence as well as his tidy short passing game makes him perfect material for the Blues.

Whilst I’d certainly prefer Khedira to some of the other players we’ve been linked to, like Marouane ‘cannot pass’ Fellaini, I don’t think he’s the type of player that we need to perfect our current setup and his transfer fee plus wages probably aren’t worth shelling out for. He could just end up being an expensive squad player.

In my opinion, it would make much more sense to sign some like Toulouse’s defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue, 24, who has a lot of promise and will probably go for less than €15 million.

The link between Chelsea-Mourinho-Khedira is more than likely a lazy media fabrication but I’m not a fan of the idea in any case.
