As we get nearer and nearer to the end of the season the day we find out which man will be our next permanent manager draws ever closer and a certain Jose Mourinho remains the odds-on favourite to take the hotseat but there has also been speculation over who may join him.

Didier Drogba hinted that he would one day like to work with the ‘Special One’ again in future, the press has even linked us with a sensational move for Cristiano Ronaldo (not likely, in my opinion) and Calciomercato.it claim that Mourinho wants to make Marco Materazzi his assistant manager should he return for a second stint at Stamford Bridge.

The duo enjoyed a good working relationship at Inter Milan and were famously pictured in tears when Mourinho said his goodbyes to the defender following Inter’s treble winning season and prior his move to the Santiago Bernabeu to manage Real Madrid.

Materazzi, a World Cup winner with Italy, has had a spell in English football before as he spent some time on loan at Everton during the 98/99 season and he had been keeping an eye on Chelsea this season as he has been extremely critical of interim manager Rafael Benitez, who succeeded Mourinho at Internazionale.

On Benitez, the Italian said:

“If I was president of a club, I would not trust him with my team.”

He also labelled the Spaniard ‘weak’ and claimed that Benitez took down the pictures of Mourinho at Inter’s training ground but the former Valencia manager denied the accusation and called Materazzi a liar, to which he replied:

“So I’m a liar? He’s thin then, so that gives reason to call me a liar.”

So he would fit in with Twitter’s #RafaOut brigade at the very least and he’s obviously very loyal towards Mourinho.
