Andre-Schurrle-Germany-vs-Ukraine_2769704Andre Schurrle has been a reported target of Chelsea’s over the course of the season but there has been strong reports in Germany indicating that the Bayer Leverkusen star is very close to signing for the Stamford Bridge club, and Kevin De Bruyne is set to be part of the deal.

Reports in Bild and the Express claim that the 22-year-old is to leave the BayArena at the end of the season and Chelsea will be the next destination for the German international, but the reports differ in their understanding of the transfer and this has been the main concern of Chelsea fans as they do not want to lose the promising De Bruyne.

The Express report that the Belgian youngster, who has impressed during his loan spell at Werder Bremen this season, will move to Bayer on loan as part of a €26 million deal that will see Schurrle move the other way, but German publication Bild believe that it will be a part exchange of €12m-€15m, plus De Bruyne on a permanent contract. It is this detail that will essentially determine how well received this potential transfer will be.

Schurrle has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season  for Bayer and is rated as as one of Germany’s more promising winger/forwards and as these rumours refuse to go away it seems that he’s been watched by Chelsea for sometime.

Personally, I’m not sold on him and think that the money is a little steep for a player of his current quality. He does have potential and he could become a player to match his current valuation, but for that type of cash I think we could be doing a lot better and I’d rather De Bruyne was given an opportunity at Chelsea.

It’s natural that the player will be compared to his countryman, especially as Germany have a great batch of talented youngsters, but I wouldn’t necessarily rate him as highly as a Marco Reus, for example.
