Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao is once again being strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea believe that they are close to signing the Colombian.

Reports in the Daily Mail claim that Blues owner Roman Abramovich has given the go-ahead to finalise a deal worth £46 million to land Falcao and pay him £200k-a-week. The newspaper also reckon Chelsea turned down the chance to sign Edinson Cavani in order to concentrate on the Falcao deal.

Our young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is also said to be a sweetener in the deal as he will be spending another season-long loan at Atletico Madrid instead of spending some time at a Premier League club as the club initially preferred the latter as an option to continue his development. I don’t believe a domestic loan will be right for him at this time anyway, but I’m not bothered just as long as he’s not leaving on a permanent deal anywhere.

However, Chelsea may have to convince Falcao’s pregnant girlfriend Lorelei Taron as she has no wish to leave Madrid:

“This baby will be born in Spain, we are not moving.

“Our doctor is here, we are very happy. I am in love with the city of Madrid and Radamel is very happy at Atletico.”

Nothing the promise of £200k-a-week won’t fix, probably.

The 27-year-old is arguably the best centre forward around these days as he’s a phenomenal goal scoring record since moving to Europe from Argentinian club River Plate in 2009.

Chelsea were initially linked with Falcao when Andre Villas-Boas came to the club and 72 goals in 87 games he scored for FC Porto should have been enough to convince them to part with £25 million, but since then he’s scored 67 goals (85 appearances) in total since arriving in what is a stronger league and is on 31 for this season so far and it appears that is enough to make Chelsea pay almost double for his services.

I’d love to have a player like Falcao at Chelsea but he’s not the only option out there and it is possible that we could sign players that would represent better value for money, what do you think? – Have your say in the comments section below.

You are welcome to FC Chelsea

Falcao is a great deal BUT i’d say schurrle as a striker is enough.

The thing we need the most is a decent manger. This is important now.

Schurrle is definitely no forward. Terrible conversion rate which is why he was moved out to the wing, like most failed strikers.
