Romanian centre-half Vlad Chiriches are interested in signing this summer as he’s impressed for Steaua Bucharest this season, but they’re not the only club chasing him.

The 23-year-old is currently valued at around £12.8 million, according to the Express, but that fee isn’t going to be a problem for Chelsea and the player could perhaps represent a more affordable option that some of Europe’s more established defenders.

Chiriches’ agent Victor Becali seems to be keen to put his client’s name out there and he claimed that Chelsea are just one of the clubs interested in signing the defender, he told Tutto Mercato Web:

“They are interested in him but other top European clubs are also following him, including those in Italy.

“It’s not been said that he will definitely leave Steaua, partly because they continue to ask for €15million.

“I believe we can handle the figures of the deal but first they need to find an agreement with Steaua. Then we will be ready to talk with other clubs.”

I don’t know much about the player and have only seen him play when Chelsea met in the Europa League. He incidentally scored in the 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge and for the most part he was part of a well organised Romanian side that was just outdone by the special quality the Blues possess within their ranks.

Also, Manchester City sent scouts to watch him when he played against Chelsea in the Europa League so there must be something about him to grab the interests of such big Premier League clubs. Real Madrid and Zenit St Petersburg have also been linked to the Romanian international recently.

Hasn’t been many of them, to be fair.

We had Petrescu but also had Mutu, and the latter ruined his own promise.
