Anyway, I digress, their latest offering is that Rafael Benitez has told friends that Mourinho is in advanced talks about a return to Chelsea (this part is plausible) and he’ll be welcome back with an open chequebook, and the player on the top of the Portuguese manager’s list is one Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the first or second best player in the world depend on who you’re asking.
For one, there’s no way that Real Madrid will allow such negotiations to take place whilst they’re competing for the Champions League and Mourinho may well see if Chelsea finish in the top four before committing to any sort of move, if it’s to happen at all.
Secondly, Ronaldo signed for Madrid for a world record £80 million and although they’ve earned back their money quick enough on his image rights not to mention his performance on the pitch, I don’t think Chelsea would splash out enough to convince them to sell their most prized asset and who knows if the player would want to sign for any other English club than his former team Manchester United.
However, it has been suggested more than once that Ronaldo is a little disillusioned with life at the Santiago Bernabeu and if he is then Mourinho would know about it and could be willing to exploit it to try and secure the player’s signature for his next club, whoever that may be.
