Frank Lampard scored the winner from the spot against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge today and the goal was his 195th of his Chelsea career.

Juan Mata scored the opener after a sublime pass from Cesar Azpilicueta in a first half in which the Blues played at a high intensity. Lampard scored the second after Ramires was brought down by the Arsenal keeper Szczesny, who was booked before being sent the wrong way by Chelsea’s veteran midfielder from the resulting penalty.

Arsenal came out a different side in the second half but so did Chelsea, unfortunately. The home side looked a shadow of themselves after the restart and left fans wondering exactly what Rafael Benitez says to the time at half time as we surrendered a two goal lead in our last outing against Southampton. But unlike the Saints, Arsenal only managed to pull one back when Theo Walcott finished coolly in the 58th minute.

Demba Ba came off the bench for Fernando Torres, who put an effort in today but wasn’t doing the business, and failed to convert a golden opportunity after beating Szczesny only to whack the ball into an Arsenal defender when he could have taken more time or played in Mata.

The Stamford Bridge faithful will be delighted with the three points and the performances of the likes of Ramires, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and co but will be worried by the second half display in which Chelsea were terrible and the manager seemed to delay the necessary changes.
