Chelsea are closing in on Metalist Kharkiv’s Brazilian youngster Taison and a fee has been agreed between the two clubs, according to Sky Sports’ sources but the Blues may face competition from another unnamed Premier League club.

The 24-year-old recently revealed that he had been to Stamford Bridge to speak to the West London about a potential move to Stamford Bridge. He later went on to say that he’d enjoy being reunited with Oscar, who had been at Brazilian club Internacional with Taison before he moved on to Metalist two-and-a-half years ago.

It’s believed that personal terms have also been agreed and the only thing that could scupper the deal would be an approach from the other interested party, but there are reports that suggest Chelsea have been given until Wednesday to finalise the deal.

Why would Chelsea go for another attacking midfielder/winger?

Should he sign, we could see the following:

1. Marko Marin is off – the German has failed to make an impression on either Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez, and I can’t see him lasting at the club as he’s nowhere near the standard of Juan Mata or Eden Hazard and doesn’t have the value of being home-grown like Victor Moses.

2. A new role for Oscar? When Oscar signed for Chelsea I initially thought that he would eventually be deployed in the midfield alongside a defensive midfielder such as John Obi Mikel. Playing a deeper role would suit Oscar’s passing game but it’ll take some coaching to help him adapt to the position and he’ll likely have to up the defensive side of his game.

3. Piazon is going out on loan – hopefully to a domestic club or he won’t qualify as a home-grown player. Ideally I would prefer he stayed at Chelsea, got his chances and earns UEFA’s club trained status, but he may need a move for playing time.

Taison may become the second signing after Demba Ba this window and although he’s by no means a priority, it doesn’t mean it’ll be a bad signing. I would like us to add another midfielder to the group, as a priority, and possibly another forward.

What are your thoughts on this rumour?
