Newcastle United striker Demba Ba is set for talks with Chelsea over a potential move to Stamford Bridge in the upcoming January transfer window.

It’s believed that the Blues are willing to trigger the Senegalese forward’s £7.5 million release clause to bring him to Stamford Bridge, according to various sources including Sky Sports and the Daily Mail.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation but it seems as though Chelsea are in the driving seat, especially as Daniel Sturridge is on his way to Anfield, but this doesn’t mean the Gunners won’t try and make a late approach for Ba.

Chelsea’s number one target Rademel Falcao wants to end the season with his current club Atletico Madrid and with only one recognised centre-forward at the club, the club has to bring someone in and it looks as though Ba, who has scored 13 goals in the Premier League this season, is the man.

His arrival would certainly help Rafael Benitez as he’d finally have a player that can challenge Fernando Torres and also be rotated with him so he can get a rest, as he hasn’t really had any opportunity to have a breather so far this season. However, there is a concern over the player’s fitness as he has a knee problem which could be an issue but is common knowledge and unlikely to scupper the deal unless his condition has worsened.

What are your opinions on this potential transfer, would it represent good business on Chelsea’s part or would you be underwhelmed? Have your say in the comments section below

  1. Pls we are currently playing without a striker i realy need demba because he is energetic nd strong nd can score goal, toress can be sold off 4 free

  2. Tokunbo says:

Niskra is right we need BA or Cisse nw, while Torres should b sold off.

Tukunbo and Ekoh. There’s no way Torres will leave anytime soon. Let’s say Ba joins the club,Torres leaves. That leaves us with only one striker with Sturridge leaving for Liverpool. It will be the same situation,a thin strike force and Ba getting burnt out. The reason Chelsea is buying a striker is to ease the pressure off Torres and someone for him to compete with. Torres isn’t such a bad player you make him out to be. He was involved in the goals Lampard scored against Everton and in general, that makes him a team player. He’s got 7 in 8 matches under Benitez and 14 in all competitions. Plus, you have to remember that the club is in transition with new players, new system and a new style of play. Thrashing teams are just flashes of the brilliance we’ll see in the future when this squad matures and the club completes the building phase. This team is not complete yet. Look at the double pivot as an example,it isn’t perfect yet. The strike force is thin. The system (4-2-3-1) we see now isn’t exactly how it should be playing yet.

He is the perfect front man for chelsea. The player is good, he can deliver especially now that chelsea has all the midfielder and the price is also good.

  5. Although BA is good, but certainly not a top striker,The type we need for our big Darling club Chelsea fc.We can add him for that cheap price Tag,and still go ahead to get a World Class Striker.
