£48m for Falcao – Yes or no?

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have admitted that selling Colombian forward Radamel Falcao could solve their financial difficulties but believe he will still be at the Vicente Calderón at the end of the season.

Falcao has been in sensational this season after scoring 11 goals in seven appearances but was already attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs after his heroics with former club Porto and his 36 goals in his debut season for Atletico last year.

The 26-year-old has some big name admirers in the Premier League including Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal (like they’ll pay up) could either the Blues or the Citizens meet his €60m (approx £48m) buyout clause in the January transfer window?

Atletico general manager says that the sale could solve their money worries:

“€60m (£48m) for Falcao would solve all the economic problems at Atletico.

“I can say for sure, though, that he will stay with us until the end of the season.

“Not only will he stay, but so will all the players that the coach wants to stay.

“We will fight to perform a miracle which is what we are doing with what we have available.

“In Europe there are 50 clubs with more income than we have. If we were to sell Falcao for €60m, then that would cover our debts.”

I don’t think anyone will be waiting until the end of the season if they’re interested because Paris Saint-Germain are willing to meet Falcao’s release clause during the winter transfer window, according to Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague.

I’m not entirely sure why City would want him when they already have the likes of Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero within their ranks. Whereas we’re in need of another forward as we’ve only Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge to call upon and although Torres has been finding the net more than he has previously, he still hasn’t looked convincing.

At the moment Falcao is the best striker in the world, in my opinion, and he’d be an incredible signing for Chelsea. Do you think we should invest the £48 it will take to sign him, stick with what we have or seek a cheaper alternative?
