Oscar signed for us from Internacional last month and has been impressive during Brazil’s Olympic campaign, which is the first proper look most of us has had of him on these shores, but was highly thought of in his home country beforehand and they don’t just give their number 10 shirt to anybody.
The 20-year-old, quoted in the People, was speaking about his hopes of Neymar joining him in west London:
“While we are in London, I have been telling Neymar about the ambition of Chelsea. When the time comes for him to join a European club, I hope I can persuade him.”
Oscar has not yet kicked a ball for the Blues but already seems to have complete faith in the ambition of the club and was impressed by our Champions League win, which has made it possible to sign him and players like Eden Hazard as things probably wouldn’t have gone this way if we were in the Europa League.
“When my agent told me that Chelsea were interested it was not something I even needed to think about.
“They are the champions of Europe, but they are still showing so much ambition by improving the squad.
“To win the European Cup and still sign guys like myself and Eden Hazard shows you the ambition the owner and manager have.
“With the squad we have I will be looking at winning the Premier League title and also the Champions League.
“I know it is very difficult to win [the Champions League] twice in a row and even Barcelona could not do it, but with what Chelsea have in place it is very possible.”
Do you think the presence of Oscar, Ramires, David Luiz and Piazon could help convince Neymar to join Chelsea over the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona when he decides to leave Brazil?
Who knows? Real Madrid could be his most likely destination as Barcelona probably don’t have the financial capacity to compete with them or Chelsea, even though they would never actually admit it. Winning the Champions League has changed everything for Chelsea as they have added their name to the elite and a star onto their badge. In the meantime I am delighted with what we have and cannot wait to see Oscar in action for Chelsea.
