Marseille and Spain fullback Cesar Azpilicueta is keen to join Chelsea and believes that it would be a deal that would benefit both sides whilst he also received high praise from his coach as he’s given 100% despite the close links with a move to Stamford Bridge.

He’s been on the verge of joining us for some time now and each report claims that the deal will be done ‘in the next 48 hours’ but we’re definitely interested and if a deal is to be done it will have to be soon as we’re drawing ever closer to the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea would like to get the deal done as soon as possible, obviously, and Marseille if things go according to plan the player won’t be on the plane with Marseille on route to Moldova to play their Europa League tie against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Azpilicueta told L’Equipe:

“Everybody thinks it is not easy for me, that I’m torn between Marseille and Chelsea, but I respect the team [Marseille] and the fans.

“I will be at 100% as long as I wear this jersey. If my departure could help the club to get some money, everybody will be happy.”

Marseille manager Elie Baup has also praised the player’s professionalism amid the speculation surrounding his future:

“It’s never easy for a guy in this kind of situation.

“Everybody talks about him. He had two great games [against Reims and Sochaux]. He is a great professional. At other teams, some players are sometimes in the same situation and they behave differently.”

It’s believed that the fee for the 22-year-old would in around the €8 million mark. Do you think he will make a good addition to the Chelsea squad and provide suitable competition with Branislav Ivanovic for a first-team place?
