Oscar ready for Chelsea challenge

Chelsea’s latest signing Oscar has told the press that he plans to speak to Roberto Di Matteo after the Olympics about his role in the squad and will be willing to play in any position to earn his opportunities on the field.

The Brazilian is currently on international duty at the London 2012 games but his signing was confirmed during the week and he will join Eden Hazard and Marko Marin in the Blues’ squad. He’s aware that there’s a lot of competition for places at the club after signings such as these and is willing to be flexible.

Oscar said:

“This is a dream for me. After the Olympics I am going to talk to the manager.

“I am ready to do whatever the manager wants me to do.

“For Internacional I played in several different positions, so I have no problem adapting.”

This is the sort of thing I like to hear from a young player. Oscar has been praised for his impressive displays for his country but isn’t getting caught up in his own hype and is respectful enough to know that he’s not going to be able to walk straight into his preferred position and will play elsewhere for the good of the team, unlike Daniel Sturridge, who seemed upset that he was not played at centre forward after he made a good start as a right-forward last season but there are those out there who would disagree on my assessment of the English forward (he’s a divisive player after all).

Oscar is also looking forward to settling in with the Brazilian contingent we already have at the club and believes he can win major honours playing for the reigning champions of Europe:

“I’m joining Chelsea hopefully to win more titles.

“The project is very exciting, especially with the young players that they are signing.

“The offer was very good for me and I didn’t have to think twice about signing.

“I am good friends with David Luiz, there’s also Ramires and Lucas Piazon at Chelsea, so they will help me adapt.”

The 20-year-old shone once again for Brazil as he made two assists in their 3-2 win over Egypt, although his first half was a lot better than his second as he faded away a little thereafter. You can see him in action for Brazil when they play against Belarus on Sunday at 3pm.

What do you make of Chelsea’s new signing and where do you think he’ll figure in Roberto Di Matteo’s plans?
