Will Chelsea make another attempt to sign this man?

Chelsea have made no official approach for Tottenham and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric but have informally inquired about the player, it has been reported. The Modric saga bored everyone to death last summer, but will the Blues have another crack at signing the player?

Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy does not want to sell to a Premier League club and would have preferred to move him on to Real Madrid, who looked to be favourites as they were willing to offer cash and Nuri Sahin in a part-exchange deal, but Sahin wants to stay at the Bernabeu and Real’s interest seems to have cooled.

In the end, Levy will just have to accept the best offer on the table as the club did not meet the ambitions of Modric and it’s unlikely that they will be able to keep hold of him for another summer as they fought of the interest of Chelsea last time around. Their position will weaken even further if he hands in an official transfer request.

That hasn’t stopped sticking a £50m asking price on the 26-year-old. They’ve rejected a number of bids from us in the past and the Telegraph believes that Roman Abramovich promised Modric that the Blues will make another attempt to sign him this summer, will they sell this time around or will he end up at Real Madrid or Manchester United?

Modric has always been a fantastic passer of the ball and has shown he can control the midfield for both club and country. He was brilliant for Croatia during the group stages and they can count themselves seriously unlucky to go out of the competition as they should have had a penalty against Spain in the final group game.

Tottenham’s failure to capitalise on a great start to last season will Modric leave the club, a season in which they ought to have finished third but somehow managed to fall behind serial choke artists Arsenal. Gareth ‘monkey face’ Bale recently signed a new deal to stay at White Hart Lane, but I don’t think the Europa League and a lifetime’s supply of Fyffes bananas will be enough to convince the Croat to stay for another season.
