Chelsea could be set to offload French midfielder Florent Malouda and recent reports suggest that a move to Brazil could be in the offing with Fluminense and Vasco Da Gama being mooted as potential destinations.

The 32-year-old has one-year left remaining on his current deal and it’s unlikely he’ll sign an extension is Roberto Di Matteo deems him surplus to requirements, so it would make sense to move him on now whilst we can still earn something for him and also remove a significant wage off the bill.

According to reports, Malouda, who has a Brazilian wife, would favour a move to Brazil and France Football have said that he has told his team-mates that he intends to quit Chelsea and join Vasco Da Gama. Should such a deal go through, I’m not sure we would get much in the way of a fee but he could be used to gain a first option on the upcoming players that they possess, much like we did when Deco moved to Fluminense.

Malouda has always been a divisive figure since his arrival from Lyon in the summer of 2007 but he enjoyed two good seasons in 2009/10 (15 goals & 15 assists) and 2010/11 (14 goals & 5 assists). However, he has never been the most popular player amongst the ranks and I doubt he’ll be missed after his abysmal showing last season. I don’t think there would be many that wouldn’t agree that it is his time to leave Chelsea.

I only want him to leave for the same reasons as Joe Cole, Alex, Anelka, Deco, Zhirkov, Kalou etc… have liked them all and they all deserve to play more regular football and they will get better chances else where!
