According to Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid turned down a £40m bid from Chelsea on deadline day for Argentinean striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Blues were reportedly keen to bolster their misfiring frontline as the lack of a regular goalscorer has made life difficult for manager Andre Villas-Boas. Daniel Sturridge has put in a decent contribution with his nine goals, but both Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba have been piss-poor.

It looks likely that Chelsea will be in the market for a new forward in the summer as Drogba will be out of contract and Torres must be running out of time as I can’t imagine he’ll be around next season if he doesn’t fire before the summer, could Higuain be the man for Chelsea?

Real Madrid are expected to make a move for Neymar in the summer and Higuain is already behind Karim Benzema the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, so he may be surplus to requirements by the time the transfer window reopens.
