Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has argued that Fabio Capello was right to express his disapproval over John Terry being stripped of the England captaincy ahead of his court hearing in July this year.

The FA recently announced that they decided to remove the captain’s armband from Terry for the second time in his career until the outcome of his court case. The defender will stand trial for alleged racist abuse towards QPR’s Anton Ferdinand.

But the decision was made over Capello’s head and the England coach is unhappy, especially as it is against the FA’s former stance of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and his outburst could cause friction with the FA, but Villas-Boas says he’s right to voice his opinion.

Villas-Boas said:

“He has the right to his opinion and to share that defence with the player.”

Many had also thought that Terry would quit international football after being stripped of his captaincy for a second time, but the 31-year-old has no intention of quitting and wants to represent England at the European Championships this summer.

To be honest, everyone has an axe to grind here. The FA wish to avoid any potential scandal or embarrassment and their course of action is understandable, Terry hasn’t yet been proven guilty but is being treated as though he is already and Capello’s authority has somewhat been undermined.
