Chelsea could be ready to make a £30m bid for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado, according to the People.

The report claims that the Spanish international, who has featured regularly in live scores this season, has a release clause inserted into his Valencia contract which Chelsea are ready to pay.

Soldado, 26, has 16 goals in 22 appearances this season and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas could see the forward as the man to score the goals when Didier Drogba leaves for the African Cup of Nations.

Chelsea have also been linked to Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain but the Argentine claims he is happy at the Bernabeu.
