AVB refuses to rule out January sales

A number of Chelsea’s players have been rumoured with moves away from Stamford Bridge over the past few months and Andre Villas-Boas hasn’t ruled out the possibility that a few could leave in the January transfer window.

Nicolas Anelka has already signed for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua and is likely to be followed by Alex. Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou and even Frank Lampard could be set for the exit door when the transfer window reopens, according to the Daily Mail.

Villas-Boas isn’t intending on selling, but refused to rule out the possibility:

“If any club comes with an interesting offer, we’ll have to consider it.

“But we are proposing is to take on the challenge of the six months ahead with these players.”

Malouda has already admitted that he would consider leaving the Blues if he doesn’t feature more regularly for the first team, especially as he’d want to stake a claim for a place in France’s squad for the Euros. Many believe he could reunite with former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti at PSG.

Both Kalou and Drogba are out of contract in the summer, and they will be able to pen a pre-contract agreement with another club once the window opens. Considering they’re available on a free in six months and they’ll be competing in the African Cup of Nations there’s not much chance that they’ll be sold in January.

As for Lampard, he’s lost his place as a guaranteed starter in Chelsea colours as Villas-Boas tends to prefer a midfield trio of Ramires, Oriol Romeu and Raul Meireles. Reports suggest that the England midfielder is disgruntled by this and he has said that he’s no idea why he’s spending so much time on the bench. Although he won’t be happy with his bit-part role, I can’t see Lampard going anywhere just yet.
